Birmingham Gifted Child Find
The State Department of Education regulations require each local education agency to implement procedures to determine eligibility of students for gifted services.
In Birmingham City Schools, the gifted teachers screen all second grade students based on referrals from the child find information from screening done by second grade teachers. A referral requirement is that "all second grade students will be observed as potential referrals for gifted evaluation.
Referrals for second graders screening will be made to the gifted teachers by the end of the first semester. Gifted teachers will request parental permission to screen and evaluate for gifted services in the spring semester.
Parents will by notified of the results by the end of the school year is a child is eligible for gifted services, which will begin at the beginning of the child's third grade year.
